Audition FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Our Audition Process

Do I need to have anything prepared or memorized for auditions? It depends on what each show’s director is looking for, but it’s always a good idea to come prepared. Having a comedic or dramatic monologue from a favorite production memorized can help you stand out—just in case it's requested.

Will I hear back whether or not I'm cast? Yes, regardless of the casting outcome, the director or assistant director will follow up with you. You'll be informed of the results and offered encouragement, along with suggestions or support for future auditions.

Do I need to have previous acting experience to be considered? Not at all! Everyone has to start somewhere, and we warmly encourage newcomers to come out and experience the audition process. It’s a great way to learn, grow, and become part of our theatre community!

What is the rehearsal schedule like for a play? Rehearsal schedules depend on the availability of the cast as a whole. Once the cast is finalized, the director will create a tentative schedule that works around everyone’s personal and work commitments.

What if I have to miss a rehearsal or cannot make the schedule that is made? Good communication with the director is essential for a smooth and successful show. It's important to consider whether your personal schedule aligns with the tentative rehearsal schedule. If conflicts arise, it’s perfectly okay to turn down a role—just try to let the team know as early as possible. Missing a rehearsal here and there is understandable—life happens—but consistent collaboration and commitment from everyone is what truly brings a production to life.

What if I am cast and have to miss multiple rehearsals? For a cast to work well together and put on a successful production, building cohesion is essential. While your role can occasionally be read by someone else if you’re absent, repeated absences may lead to your part being re-cast at the director’s discretion. Consistency and commitment help ensure the show runs smoothly and the cast grows together as a team.

How long is the full preparation time for a play, from auditions to performance? Typically, the entire process—from auditions to opening night—lasts about 8 weeks.

Will I need to provide my own costume for the play? No, costumes will be provided. However, if you have clothing or accessories that fit your character and you'd like to bring them in, our costume designer would be happy to take a look. We have an extensive costume wardrobe and many accessories available. Personal footwear is often welcome, as long as it suits the character.

Do I need my own transportation to get to rehearsals and performances? Having your own transportation is definitely helpful. However, if you don’t have a way to get there, we may be able to arrange a ride with another cast or crew member, depending on their availability and schedule.

How many nights per week are rehearsals, and what time do they take place? Rehearsal schedules are set by the director. Early in the process, rehearsals are typically held 2–3 nights per week. As the show approaches, this usually increases to 3–4 nights weekly. During “tech week” (the final week before opening night), rehearsals are held every evening. Most rehearsals are in the evening and last 2 to 3 hours.

Do I have to memorize my lines? Yes, all lines must be memorized. We do not use teleprompters. You’ll also need to be able to speak your lines clearly and project your voice so the entire audience can hear you.

Will I have a microphone, or do I need to project my voice? Individual microphones are not provided. The stage is equipped with overhead microphones, but you must project your voice so that even audience members in the back row can hear you clearly. Strong vocal projection is essential for a successful performance.

How many performance nights are there for each production? Most productions include 4 public show nights—typically two weekends of Friday and Saturday evening performances. Occasionally, a Sunday matinee may be added, depending on the production. In addition, there is a special Thursday night full dress rehearsal during those two weeks, held for one of our community partners. This performance is not open to the public or available for ticket sales.

What time do shows start, and how long do they last? Evening shows begin at 7:30 PM, with doors opening at 7:00 PM. Matinee shows begin at 2:00 PM, with doors opening at 1:30 PM. Most performances run about 2 hours and include a 15-minute intermission. Please note that all times are approximate.

I’m not interested in acting, but I’d like to help with set design, lighting, sound, or stage management. How can I get involved? We rely on dedicated volunteers for all aspects of production! If you're interested in helping behind the scenes, please message our Facebook page with your availability and interests, we’d love to have you join the team.
