The Board of Governors of Portsmouth Little Theatre is responsible for developing policies governing the theatre (including budget, grant applications, building maintenance, public relationtions, education and much more) as well as planning and implementing each individual production and the season as a whole.
The Board of Governors consists of at least 15 members who are elected for a two-year tem. The terms are staggered so that one year 8 are up for reelection and 7 the next. Board members are chosen based upon what special talents they can lend to the organization. Our membership has a varied background, but at least one thing in common, a love of theater.
The Board meets once a month (although special meetings or executive meetings may be called) at 7PM on the second Monday of the month at the theatre.
Elections are held at the organization's annual meeting, held each summer, and is also known as Portsmouth Little Theatre's Marlowe Award Ceremony. The Marlowes are PLT's version of the Oscars.
The meeting (the busines portion of the evening takes only a few minutes) and ceremony are open to all members of the theatre. All season ticket holders are members and get to vote. Nominations for Board members can be given from the floor prior to voting.
